Three kinds of work
All pricing below is indicative. Every garment is quoted properly at consultation, because construction, fabric and complexity change the work more than the garment type does.
Bridal & Evening
- Hemming — layered and structured skirts
- from £120
- Bustling — fastening the train up for the reception
- from £35 per point
- Bodice resizing and corset restructuring
- from £80
- Beading and lace appliqué repair
- from £80
- Silk, velvet and bias-cut — cut on the diagonal
- by consultation
If it is for an occasion, it belongs here: wedding dresses, bridesmaids, mother of the bride, and anything black tie. Structural work is where twelve years of corsetry and tulle actually shows. Book early — four weeks is the minimum, and longer through the summer.
Everyday
- Hems — trousers, skirts and dresses
- from £25
- Taking in and letting out — side seams
- from £35
- Jeans shortened, keeping the original stitched edge
- from £30
- Zips replaced and waistbands adjusted
- from £30
- Reshaping a jacket, trousers or a skirt
- from £85
- Relining a coat or jacket; leather and suede
- from £120
The clothes you wear the rest of the time, altered properly rather than approximately. A hem taken up by hand where the fabric asks for it, a jacket reshaped through the seams it was built with, jeans shortened so they keep the original stitched edge and still look like jeans. Nothing here is beneath the work.
Textile Restoration
- Invisible repair and patching
- from £60
- Period zips, hooks and fastenings
- from £45
- Heirloom item conservation
- from £60
- Garment remodelling
- by consultation
Period construction is the day job. An heirloom that no longer fits does not have to be given up on, and old fabric that has become fragile is a known quantity here rather than a gamble.
Pricing notes
A consultation fee secures your fitting and is deducted in full from your final bill: £10 for everyday alterations, £20 for textile restoration, and £30 for bridal and evening work. Rush services are sometimes possible for a surcharge: under four weeks for bridal, under one week for everything else. Ask when you book.
