Where exactly is the studio?
The Atelier is a private home studio in Lewes. The exact address and parking instructions are sent to you by email once your appointment and consultation fee are confirmed.
What should I bring to a fitting?
The exact shoes and undergarments you intend to wear — bra, shapewear, petticoats, everything. This is not a suggestion. A centimetre of heel height changes your posture as well as where a couture hem has to fall — and posture changes how the whole garment hangs, not just its length. A different bra changes the whole bodice.
How does the consultation fee work?
It is £10 for everyday alterations and £30 for bridal, evening and restoration work — the specialist appointments are longer and harder to refill. Either way it secures your appointment and is deducted in full from your final bill. It is non-refundable if you do not attend, because the time is held for you and cannot be given to anyone else at short notice.
How long will my alterations take?
It depends entirely on the garment. Bridal and complex structural work should be booked well in advance — four weeks at the very least, and longer in the summer. Rush services are sometimes possible for a surcharge; ask when you book rather than assuming.
What if my size changes before the event?
A garment is fitted to your measurements on the day it is pinned. Bodies change, and that is completely normal — but alterations needed because of a later change are new work and are quoted separately. If you know a change is likely, say so at the fitting and the garment can be built with that in mind.
Is the studio accessible?
The studio is on the ground floor, but there is a small step at the entrance. If you have any mobility requirements at all, say so when you book and it will be arranged properly rather than improvised on the day.
Are there dogs?
Yes — Cleo, a wire fox terrier, and Bonnie, a lurcher–deerhound. They are friendly, well-mannered and firmly convinced they are part of the team. Dog-free fittings are arranged gladly if you would prefer, or if there are allergies. Just say when you book; nobody will ask you why.
Do you work with bridal boutiques?
Yes. Complex structural alterations — corsetry, bustling, multi-layer hems — are exactly the work boutiques most often need a specialist for. Do get in touch.
